The Performance of Madame Butterfly

The festival took place at an outdoor venue set up at Kaunas Castle in Kaunas, Lithuania. Attendees enjoyed a long, delightful summer evening until around 10 PM when the sun set.

On the first day, Puccini’s opera Madame Butterfly was performed under the direction of Maestro Hirofumi Yoshida, featuring four Japanese soloists. This year marks the 100th anniversary of Puccini’s death and the 120th anniversary of the premiere of Madame Butterfly, making this a commemorative performance.

Additionally, Roland DG and DG DIMENSE set up a booth at the venue to sell original merchandise created with its inkjet printers. These Japanese-themed original merchandise, inspired by the opera, were well-received, generating a total of €1,020 in sales. All proceeds from the sales will be donated through DG DIMENSE to support activities for children with cancer in Lithuania. Five volunteer staff including local Japanese students assisted with the sales, incorporating their ideas into the booth’s operation.

The second day featured a “Gala Concert: An Evening of Italian Music,” showcasing famous pieces from Italian opera, including works by Puccini and others. At 9 PM, in celebration of the Statehood Day of Lithuania, the national anthem was sung, bringing the audience together in a moment of unity and celebration.
